In the late morning of August 5, 2026, a brazen and fatal shooting shattered the daily rhythm on Blue Hill Avenue in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood. Twenty-year-old Victor Armani Arias Rivera was shot multiple times and staggered into an apartment building seeking help before he collapsed. Emergency responders rushed him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
Witnesses described a chaotic and emotional scene, with people screaming and crying as paramedics tried to save the young man's life. A resident of the area noted that Rivera was a familiar face on the street. It has been reported that Rivera had recently moved to the neighborhood from the Dominican Republic with the intention of attending college.
The investigation into the death of Victor Armani Arias Rivera quickly pointed to a targeted attack. Boston Police identified 23-year-old Billy Thien Huynh of Boston as the suspect. The dispute that led to the fatal encounter was reportedly over a stolen motorbike. Prosecutors state that Huynh had gone to the residence on Blue Hill Avenue earlier in the day in search of his possibly stolen motorcycle. After not getting any answers, he left and later returned with a friend and the friend's child. It was during this second visit that Huynh allegedly spoke with Rivera before shooting him twice on the porch of the home.
Following the shooting, Billy Thien Huynh allegedly fled the scene on a motorcycle before getting into a rideshare. However, in a surprising turn, he surrendered to the police less than 24 hours after the incident. Huynh was arrested and subsequently charged with murder and illegal gun possession. During his arraignment in Dorchester's Boston Municipal Court, prosecutors said Huynh told investigators that he had "just snapped" and "blacked out." He was ordered to be held without bail and to have no contact with any witnesses in the case. The shooting marked the 19th homicide in the city of Boston for the year. The case against Billy Thien Huynh is currently pending in the court system, and the investigation is considered ongoing.
