Later that same evening, seeking retribution for the attack, Young set out to find those he believed were responsible.
Cassim Weaver was a passenger in a car driven by his friend, Darrell Williams. Three young women were also in the back seat as they stopped at a Chinese restaurant and then drove to a nearby parking lot. It was there that they were confronted by Rakeem Young. Young, who had arrived in a separate vehicle driven by his brother, approached Williams's car and chillingly asked, "Which one of you all jumped me?". Shortly after, he opened fire into the vehicle. The gunfire fatally wounded Cassim Weaver and also injured Darrell Williams.
