In the early hours of Sunday, September 27, 2020, the life of Keenan Ritter, a 28-year-old Black man from Dorchester, was tragically cut short. Boston police officers responded to a call for a person shot on Hubbardston Road in the Savin Hill neighborhood of Dorchester at approximately 1:15 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ritter unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Keenan Ritter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Ritter's death continued for over six months. In a significant development on April 1, 2021, the Boston Police Department announced the arrests of two individuals in connection with the fatal shooting. Jarrid Campbell, 18, and Christ Daphnis, 19, both from Randolph, were taken into custody and charged with murder.
In addition to the murder charges, Campbell and Daphnis faced several firearm-related offenses. These included carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Identification card, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. Following their arrests, the two men were scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court. The arrests brought a measure of progress in a case that had left a community searching for answers.
