For 27-year-old Malik Jones, a former college soccer player at Morton College, it was a time for a peaceful bike ride through Grant Park. The familiar paths of the park, usually a place of recreation and respite, were about to become the scene of a senseless tragedy that would abruptly end his life.

According to prosecutors, Argudo-Tenorio was with a group of friends in Grant Park, having gathered after a birthday party. The group was reportedly drinking on the sidewalk when Jones happened to ride by on his bicycle. While he was not in the vehicle when it was located, he was subsequently arrested at his home in Oak Park. Eliel Argudo-Tenorio has since been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Malik Jones and is awaiting further legal proceedings.
