In the early morning hours of July 6, 2026, the life of 19-year-old Turray Simms of Northeast, DC, was tragically cut short. At approximately 4:30 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District responded to a report of a person down in the 2500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. Upon arrival, they found Simms suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were dispatched to the scene and quickly transported the
young man to a local hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention and all life-saving efforts, Turray Simms succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The case was immediately classified as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
