Eldrick McNeal, a 40-year-old man from Montgomery, was killed in a late-night shooting that unfolded in the 3400 block of Texas Street, an area reported to be between Lower Wetumpka Road and Fairground Road. Police were called to the scene after reports of a person shot, and when officers arrived, they found McNeal suffering from fatal gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was also wounded in the same shooting and was taken to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening.
McNeal's death was counted as Montgomery's 21st homicide of 2026, adding another fatal case to the city's violence that year. Early reports released only limited details, identifying McNeal as the man who died and confirming that a second victim had been seriously injured. Authorities did not immediately explain what led up to the gunfire, whether the people involved knew one another, or what motive investigators believed may have been behind the shooting.
Within days, Montgomery police announced an arrest. Travis Delbridge, 37, was charged with murder in McNeal's death and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility on June 14. Police said Delbridge was accused in the shooting death, but they did not release the circumstances surrounding the incident, leaving the public with few details about what investigators believed happened before the fatal shots were fired.
The case continued to develop when police later announced a second murder charge. Curtis Julius, 39, was also charged with murder in connection with McNeal's death. By that point, police had identified both Julius and Delbridge as suspects accused in the fatal shooting, but public reports still did not include a detailed account of the alleged roles each man played, the suspected motive, or whether additional arrests were expected.
