In the early hours of May 8, 2026, the quiet of a North Lauderdale neighborhood was shattered by gunfire. Inside a 2020 Ford Mustang, 19-year-old O'Mari Doe was sitting with three other people. A black Honda Accord suddenly pulled up, and four individuals got out and opened fire on the Mustang with handguns before getting back in their car and speeding off. When the shooting stopped, O'Mari Doe had been struck multiple times.
Another occupant of the car, 20-year-old Maurice Vorroto, was also hit by a single bullet, while the other two passengers were unharmed.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics arrived at the scene on the 7900 block of Southwest Seventh Court to a grim sight. They found O'Mari Doe inside the bullet-riddled Mustang with multiple gunshot wounds. Maurice Vorroto was found outside the vehicle. Both young men were rushed to Broward Health North. Tragically, O'Mari Doe succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Vorroto's injuries were described as not life-threatening. The Dillard High School student was remembered by loved ones for his funny and expressive personality.
An alert was immediately issued for the black Honda Accord, and later that same morning, a Fort Lauderdale Police officer spotted the vehicle and gave chase. The four occupants eventually abandoned the car and fled on foot, but law enforcement officers were able to apprehend all of them. The Broward Sheriff's Office announced the arrests of 18-year-old Aamir Adams of Pompano Beach, Anthony Adams, and two juveniles, aged 15 and 16. All four face serious charges, including one count of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. The two adult suspects were booked into the BSO main jail in Fort Lauderdale. The case against the four individuals is now moving through the legal system, with prosecutors yet to decide whether the two teenagers will be charged as adults.
