In the early hours of Sunday, April 5, 2026, the quiet of a Pompano Beach street was broken by the discovery of a man's body. Rayon Sanchez, a 40-year-old Black male, was found lying in the roadway in the 1600 block of North Dixie Highway. The initial call to the Broward Sheriff's Office came in at approximately 2 a.m., reporting an injured person. Upon their arrival, deputies found Sanchez had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was quickly secured by law enforcement, and the 1600 block of North Dixie Highway was closed to traffic for about four hours as homicide and crime scene investigators began their work, meticulously gathering evidence. The Broward Sheriff's Office has since opened a homicide investigation into Sanchez's death.
As of now, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive in the shooting.
