In the early morning hours of March 28, 2026, a dispute in Muskogee, Oklahoma, escalated to a fatal conclusion, leaving 38-year-old Elio Hernandez dead from a gunshot wound. The incident unfolded near East Side Boulevard and Gibson Street, where police responded to reports of shots fired around 4 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Hernandez in the front yard of a residence.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an earlier altercation inside the house between Hernandez and another individual. The suspect reportedly left the location after the initial fight but returned a short time later. Hernandez was outside with several other people when the suspect reappeared and opened fire, fatally wounding him. The shooter then fled the scene before law enforcement could arrive.
In the days that followed, the Muskogee Police Department identified 42-year-old Jesus Garcia as the suspect in Hernandez's death. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and a search was initiated. On April 9, 2026, authorities announced that Garcia had been taken into custody by a law enforcement agency near Del Rio, Texas. The investigation into the homicide is still considered active and ongoing by the Muskogee Police.
In the wake of his death, family members described Elio Hernandez as a "loving, kind, and hardworking person whose life was taken too soon." A GoFundMe campaign was established to assist with his funeral expenses as his family navigated the heartbreak of their sudden and violent loss.
