In the early morning hours of September 15, 2022, the life of 23-year-old Black/African American male, Dante Gholston, was tragically cut short in Montgomery, Alabama. At approximately 12:25 a.m., Montgomery police and fire medics were dispatched to the 6000 block of Woodley Circle following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gholston, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Montgomery Police Department launched a
homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify 20-year-old Maurion Hinson as a suspect in connection with Gholston's death. The investigation culminated in Hinson's apprehension on September 23, 2022, by the United States Marshals Task Force.
Following his arrest, Maurion Hinson was charged with murder. He was subsequently booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility, with his bond set at $1.5 million. The case underscores the ongoing issue of gun violence within the community as law enforcement continues to investigate such incidents. Funeral services for Dante Gholston were held on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
