In the early morning hours of April 18, 2022, tragedy struck in Montgomery, Alabama, when 38-year-old Charles Griggs, a Black male, was found with fatal gunshot wounds. The incident unfolded in the 800 block of Westview Drive, where Montgomery police and fire medics responded to a call shortly before 9 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Griggs, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man was also found at the location with life-threatening gunshot wounds and was quickly
transported to a local hospital for medical attention. The grim discovery of one man deceased and another critically injured launched an immediate investigation by law enforcement.
Shortly after the initial call, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Airbase Boulevard following reports of gunfire in that area. There, they apprehended 41-year-old Samuel Williams, who was found in possession of a firearm. Williams was subsequently taken into custody.
Following the investigation, Samuel Williams was charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Charles Griggs. He also faced two counts of attempted murder and a charge of firing a gun into an occupied vehicle. Williams was then incarcerated with a total bond set at $1,650,000. While an arrest has been made, the Montgomery Police Department has not released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting as the investigation continues.
