In the late summer evening of August 25, 2023, the life of 66-year-old Rickey Daniel, a male resident of Montgomery, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Responders arriving at the 4200 block of Sussex Drive at approximately 7:55 p.m. found Mr. Daniel with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The initial investigation into his death quickly became a homicide case, believed to have occurred during the commission of a robbery and burglary.
Investigators with the
Montgomery Police Department began to piece together the events that led to the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a person of interest, and they sought help from the public by releasing a photograph of an unknown Black female for questioning. The community response was significant, and within hours, a woman identified as Jayln Lakevion Greene turned herself in to law enforcement. Following questioning, Greene was taken into custody and charged with capital murder. She was subsequently transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility and held without bond.
The investigation did not end with Greene's arrest. A second suspect, Kenneth Huffman Jr., was later identified and apprehended in connection with the deadly shooting. He faced the same serious charges of two counts of capital murder. Both individuals are now awaiting further legal proceedings in connection with the death of Rickey Daniel.
