On a street in Pittsburgh's Southside Flats, the life of 23-year-old Amaree Keshawn Lee Dawson, a Black male, was tragically cut short on March 29, 2026. In the early morning hours, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the sound of gunfire echoed at the intersection of 18th and East Carson Streets. Members of the South Side Entertainment Patrol responded to ShotSpotter alerts that detected multiple gunshots in the area.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Dawson lying in the street, having
sustained multiple gunshot wounds. They immediately rendered aid, applying chest seals to his injuries until paramedics arrived. Dawson was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but tragically, he was pronounced dead a short time later. The Violent Crime Division detectives have since launched an investigation into the homicide.
While no arrests have been made in connection with Dawson's death, the night was marked by another shooting in the South Side. In that separate incident, which police have stated is unrelated, a suspect was taken into custody. However, for the family and friends of Amaree Dawson, there are still no answers as to who is responsible for his death. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to search for the person or persons involved in the fatal shooting.
