On the evening of March 30, 2026, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in a Detroit neighborhood, tragically ending the life of 20-year-old David Gary Martin Jr. The fatal encounter unfolded around 9:59 p.m. near the intersection of Margareta Street and Prest Street. Responding to a call of a shooting, Detroit Police officers arrived to a scene of chaos and tragedy.
They discovered Martin inside his vehicle, which had careened into a home on Sussex Street, a short distance from where the shooting occurred. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Paramedics rushed Martin to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead. Investigators determined that in the moments after being shot, Martin had attempted to flee his assailants, but lost control of his car, leading to the devastating crash. In the days following the homicide, the investigation led to the apprehension of three teenage suspects. Keyonte Johnson, aged 17, and two 18-year-olds, Taiwan Nathaniel Jody Robinson and Tadario Thomas Derwin Sims, all residents of Detroit, were taken into custody. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought serious charges against the trio. Johnson and Sims are facing allegations of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, Felony Firearm, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. The three accused were arraigned in the 36th District Court and were subsequently remanded to jail.
