On a spring day in Detroit, what began with a father enjoying time with his children at a park ended in a fatal shooting that left a family shattered. Toney Lynn-Antonio Mason, a 32-year-old male, was shot and killed on Friday, April 22, 2016, on Greenlawn Street near Puritan Avenue. The tragic event unfolded after Mason returned from the park with his three children.
Following their outing, an argument erupted between Mason and his estranged wife, 32-year-old Auroniece Jackson.
The dispute centered around the children, as Mason refused to let them leave with Jackson. In the moments that followed, Mason placed the children in his girlfriend's truck. It was then, in front of his children, that he was shot at point-blank range.
In the wake of the shooting, Auroniece Jackson was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with Toney Lynn-Antonio Mason's death. The charges brought against her were severe, including first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. Following the charges, Jackson was arraigned before a magistrate, and a probable cause conference was scheduled for early May of that year. The case then proceeded through the legal system to address the violent end to a domestic dispute.
