In the late hours of April 6, 2026, in Trenton, New Jersey, gunfire erupted at the Donnelly Homes complex on Southard Street, shattering the night's quiet. When the chaos subsided, three men were found wounded. Among them was 31-year-old Devante Taylor, a resident of Trenton, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services rushed Taylor to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries two days later on the evening of April 8, 2026. The two other victims of the shooting, a 46-year-old and a 26-year-old, both residents of Trenton, were also hospitalized but were listed in stable condition. Police have indicated that none of the three victims were residents of the Donnelly Homes complex where the shooting took place.
Known affectionately as "Deezy," Devante Taylor was described as a proud father to a daughter and a gifted lyricist who loved rap music.
Those who knew him remembered him as a peacemaker, the glue that held his cousins and community together, bringing laughter and love to those around him. He was a former student of the Trenton Public School System and was employed at the Educational Testing Service.
The Mercer County Shooting Response Team is actively investigating the triple shooting that cut Devante Taylor's life short. However, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
