A teenage boy's life was tragically cut short on a Philadelphia basketball court in the spring of 2026. The sounds of a dispute, followed by a barrage of gunfire, echoed through the West Oak Lane neighborhood on the evening of April 7th, leaving 13-year-old Amir Aker dead.
That Tuesday evening, Amir and a 14-year-old friend were on a basketball court in the 7100 block of North 19th Street when an argument broke out. Shortly before 9 p.m., the verbal confrontation escalated to violence.
Responding to calls of a shooting, police arrived to find both boys suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Amir had been struck in the back and shoulder, while his friend was wounded in both legs.
