Alex Garron Treft, 34, of Grand Junction, Iowa, was identified by online sources as the victim in a Greene County homicide investigation after an assault call sent deputies, rescue crews, and ambulance personnel to 505 Main Street East in Grand Junction on Sunday afternoon, April 19, 2026. Authorities said Treft was found badly wounded in a detached two-vehicle garage, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
He was first taken to Greene County Medical Center, then flown by air ambulance to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, where he died from his injuries. His obituary lists his date of death as Monday, April 20, 2026, at UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
The case began with two 911 calls around 2:12 p.m. on April 19 reporting an assault at the Grand Junction residence. According to court documents summarized by local reporting, surveillance footage from the property became a key part of the investigation. The video reportedly showed a black SUV arriving at about 1:35 p.m.; the driver, identified by authorities as 27-year-old Sebastian Ramirez of Perry, got out and met with Treft in the garage. Around 1:41 p.m., the footage reportedly showed Ramirez leaving the residence alone in the SUV. Investigators said a witness heard a gunshot, and the audio portion of the surveillance recording also captured a gunshot. About 30 minutes later, Treft was found on the garage floor, bloody and unresponsive.
Law enforcement quickly focused on Ramirez as the suspect. Authorities said Perry police located and detained him in Perry later that same day, and he was transported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Raccoon Valley Radio reported that Ramirez was arrested at 5:56 p.m. on Sunday. When interviewed by agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Ramirez allegedly denied being in Grand Junction and denied being with Treft, despite the surveillance evidence cited in court documents.
Investigators also reported recovering a possible weapon through a witness. Court documents stated that a witness told investigators Ramirez had given them a cleaned 9mm handgun and wanted the witness to hold it at their home in Churdan. The witness later turned the weapon over to law enforcement, and investigators believed it may have been used in the shooting.
Ramirez was charged with first-degree murder, a Class A felony, and felon in possession of a firearm, a Class D felony. He was booked into the Greene County Jail and was reported to be held on a $1 million bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 29, 2026, at the Greene County Courthouse. As of the available online reporting, Ramirez was the named suspect, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was assisting the Greene County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing investigation.
