On the evening of April 21, 2026, the life of 22-year-old I'sis Garza was tragically cut short in Odessa, Texas. Police responded to a call about a gunshot victim at the High Plains Apartments at approximately 7:30 p.m. and found Garza unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite emergency CPR administered by the officers who arrived at the scene, she succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect was quickly identified as David Dewayne Horn Jr., Garza's 22-year-old common-law husband.
Witnesses reported seeing Horn leaving the apartment complex in a purple Dodge Charger. Officers en route to the scene spotted the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, Horn reportedly admitted to shooting Garza.
Horn was taken into custody and, after waiving his right to an attorney, told investigators that the shooting occurred after an argument with Garza. He claimed that Garza had picked up his gun, threatened him with it, and fired a shot into the floor. According to Horn, a struggle for the weapon ensued, during which they both fell. He alleged that while on top of her, he fired the gun next to her to scare her, and she then stopped moving. However, investigators concluded that Horn intentionally fired multiple shots at Garza, leading to her death.
David DeWayne Horn Jr. has been charged with murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond. He was arrested and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
