Drevon Mixon, a 19-year-old male, was fatally shot late on the night of April 21, 2026, at an RV park along Louisiana Highway 1 in Grand Isle, Louisiana. Mixon was originally from Panama City, Florida, and had been a longtime resident of Cameron, Louisiana. He had recently become a father and was remembered by relatives as a devoted fiancé, son, brother and new parent whose sudden death devastated his family.
The shooting occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m.
in the 3100 block of Louisiana Highway 1. Grand Isle police officers responding to a report of gunfire found Mixon lying unresponsive on the ground near one of the lots in the RV park. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Because Grand Isle relies on the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for assistance with major criminal investigations, sheriff's homicide detectives took over the case with Grand Isle officers assisting. At first, authorities released few details beyond describing the death as a homicide, and the circumstances surrounding the gunfire remained unclear.
As detectives reconstructed the events leading to the shooting, the case took a substantially different direction. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said investigators determined that three people had traveled to the RV park believing they were going there to purchase narcotics. Authorities alleged that Mixon and 18-year-old Wallace Ledet Jr. had instead planned to rob the group during the supposed drug transaction. Investigators said Mixon and Ledet approached the vehicle containing the three prospective buyers and that Mixon produced a firearm in an attempt to carry out the robbery.
One of the people inside the vehicle was also armed. According to investigators, that person opened fire after Mixon displayed his weapon, striking Mixon and fatally wounding him. The occupants of the vehicle then drove away from the immediate scene, traveled a couple of blocks and stopped before contacting law enforcement themselves. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office subsequently concluded that the person who shot Mixon had acted in self-defense. Sheriff Lopinto said investigators considered the fatal shooting justified, and the shooter was not arrested for Mixon's death. Authorities did indicate, however, that people inside the vehicle could potentially face separate narcotics-related charges because the meeting had originated as an apparent drug transaction.
The investigation increasingly focused on people accused of participating in the alleged robbery plan. Wallace Ledet Jr., a Grand Isle resident and the stepson of a Grand Isle police officer, was arrested within days of the shooting. Authorities initially accused Ledet of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and manslaughter. The manslaughter allegation arose even though investigators said another person actually fired the fatal shots, with prosecutors pursuing Ledet in connection with the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted robbery that resulted in Mixon's death. Ledet was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Investigators also identified 20-year-old Jordan Morvant of Thibodaux as another alleged participant in the events surrounding the robbery scheme. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office obtained an arrest warrant for Morvant on May 1, initially charging him with felony conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Morvant was taken into custody in Thibodaux and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Early reports listed his bond at $250,000, while Ledet's bond was reported at $900,000. Investigators alleged that witnesses had heard discussions concerning the planned robbery, and later reporting said Ledet admitted involvement and acknowledged providing a. 380-caliber Glock connected with the plan.
As the prosecution developed, the charges expanded. Court records reported in June showed that both Wallace Ledet Jr. and Jordan Morvant were facing manslaughter, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with the case. Ledet additionally faced an obstruction of justice charge. On June 26, 2026, both defendants entered pleas of not guilty. Their cases therefore remained unresolved criminal prosecutions rather than convictions, with the defendants contesting the allegations against them.
Mixon's death was described by Grand Isle authorities as the community's first homicide of 2026, although investigators ultimately concluded that the person who actually fired the fatal shots had acted lawfully in self-defense. The resulting criminal case instead centered on the alleged robbery conspiracy and the actions that authorities say led to the deadly confrontation. Based on the most recent publicly available reporting located, Ledet and Morvant had pleaded not guilty and were awaiting further court proceedings; no trial verdict or conviction in connection with Mixon's death had yet been publicly reported.
