In the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, a community already grappling with a surge in violence, the life of 48-year-old Lawrence Algere Sr. was cut short on the evening of December 22, 2021. He was found on the sidewalk, the victim of a fatal shooting. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office would later confirm that Algere died from at least one gunshot wound.
