In the spring of 2026, the community of Jackson, Tennessee, was shaken by the untimely death of 19-year-old Devin Parker Jr. A student from Memphis, Parker's life was cut short on the night of Saturday, March 28, 2026, in what was described as a tragic incident on the campus of Lane College.
The events unfolded within the walls of Williamson Hall, a residence hall on the college grounds. Jackson Police were dispatched to the building following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered that Devin Parker Jr. had been fatally wounded. The investigation that followed pointed to another 19-year-old, Zavon Luckett Junior, as the individual responsible for the discharge of the firearm.
Authorities determined that the shooting was the result of the reckless handling of a weapon. Luckett, also a student at Lane College, was taken into custody in connection with Parker's death. He was subsequently charged with reckless homicide, a charge that suggests a death caused by a person's careless actions without the intent to kill.
Following his arrest, Zavon Luckett Junior was arraigned in Jackson City Court on the Tuesday following the incident. His case was scheduled for another court appearance the next morning. In the wake of the tragedy, Lane College announced that the Bray Hall Building would be illuminated for a week in honor of Devin Parker Jr.'s memory.
