In the early hours of Sunday, April 5, 2026, a night that began with the echoes of a concert at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Penn Street in Reading, Pennsylvania, ended in a senseless act of violence that claimed the life of 57-year-old Jorge Luis Ocasio-Ortiz. A resident of Reading, Ocasio-Ortiz, who was born in Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico, and worked as a chef at Franklyn's Breakfast and Burgers, was an innocent bystander in a dispute that did not involve him.
