An evening in Southeast Washington, D.C. turned tragic on Saturday, April 11, 2026, when 18-year-old Dereon Womack was fatally shot. The incident, which also left two other men injured, unfolded around 6:29 p.m. in the 3500 block of 22nd Street, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic and grim situation with multiple victims.
Responding to reports of a shooting, police found Womack in a driveway at the rear of a location,
suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Womack was a resident of Northeast, D.C. The violence was not contained to that single spot; a second adult male was found inside a vehicle at the same location, also with gunshot wounds.
The scope of the incident widened when a third adult male victim was located a short distance away, at the intersection of 23rd Street and Savannah Street, Southeast. He too had sustained gunshot wounds. Both of the surviving victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The identities of these two men have not been publicly released.
As of the days immediately following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department had not identified a suspect or a possible motive in the attack. It remains unclear what led to the gunfire or if the victims were specifically targeted. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. No arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting.
