A Sunday evening party at an apartment complex on Hucks Road in north Charlotte turned into a scene of violence on March 22, 2026, leaving one young man dead and four others wounded. Richard Jeddiah Thomas, a 20-year-old, was fatally shot during the gathering, which was attended by a large crowd of young adults and teenagers. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Upon their arrival, officers found three individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. Richard Jeddiah Thomas was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Charlotte Fire Department. Two other victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. As the investigation progressed, it was determined that two additional victims had also been shot during the incident and had transported themselves to the hospital, bringing the total number of people shot to five. Police described the event as "a party gone bad."
