On May 30, 2016, 48-year-old Darrell Curry, an African American male, was fatally shot in northeast Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 7:10 p.m. in the 10200 block of Berkeley Place. Following the shooting, a 911 call was made by an individual reporting that they had been shot and were en route to the hospital. Upon arrival at the medical facility, officers discovered two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds; Darrell Curry was later pronounced dead.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department swiftly initiated an investigation into the homicide. Evidence collected during the inquiry led detectives to identify 26-year-old Michael Kevin Duncan as a suspect. Duncan was apprehended on May 31, 2016, and subsequently charged with murder. He was then transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office for processing.
Further investigative efforts revealed the involvement of a second suspect, 24-year-old Marsean Omar Allison. On June 9, 2016, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Allison. He faced multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury.
Authorities determined that the fatal shooting of Darrell Curry was drug-related. The investigation concluded that both Duncan and Allison were implicated in the incident that led to Curry's death. The swift arrests and subsequent charges underscored CMPD's commitment to addressing violent crime and ensuring justice for victims and their families.
