Scott Howard, a 33-year-old Black man, was tragically shot and killed on December 29, 2022, around 3 a.m. on Jeff Adams Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina. Officers responded to an attempt to locate 911 call and found Scott suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, and Scott was found on the side of the road, indicating that the shooting might not have happened at the location where he was discovered.
The investigation into Scott Howard's death revealed that he had been at a Shell gas station, approximately 2.4 miles away from the Waste Connections Queen City Transfer Station, on the evening of his death. Surveillance footage from the gas station captured Scott riding in the backseat of a Dodge Charger, which was driven by Andre Poole. The Dodge Charger was later seen on multiple surveillance cameras traveling towards the waste transfer station. A garbage truck's dash camera captured the Dodge Charger leaving the station quickly and without headlights at 2:34 a.m., and Scott's body was found lying in the driveway of the station shortly after.
Andre Poole, a 25-year-old man, was arrested and charged with the homicide of Scott Howard. However, the firearm used in the shooting was never recovered, and despite extensive investigation, detectives were unable to gather sufficient evidence to prove Andre's involvement in the crime. In March 2024, the murder charge against Andre Poole was dismissed by prosecutors due to the lack of concrete evidence. The case remains unresolved, and authorities continue to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation.
