A sense of normalcy was shattered on the evening of Sunday, March 22, 2026, in the Park DuValle neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, when a shooting incident claimed the life of 34-year-old Charmont Thompson. A Black man, Thompson was found with gunshot wounds in the 2900 block of Annie Street, a discovery made by Louisville Metro Police Department officers who were initially drawn to the area by a ShotSpotter alert around 9:15 p.m.
Emergency medical services, upon their arrival, pronounced Thompson dead at the scene.
The scene of the shooting was further complicated by a secondary event that unfolded as officers were securing the area. A vehicle, in an attempt to flee the location, struck a police officer. The injured officer was transported to the hospital and was reported to be conscious and alert. He was later evaluated and released.
