In the early morning hours of June 18, 2015, the life of 29-year-old Antwon Willis was tragically cut short in downtown Louisville. Willis, a male resident of Cane Run Road, was discovered behind an Indi's restaurant at 10th and Broadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived at the scene shortly after midnight, but Willis was pronounced dead at the location.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's homicide unit immediately launched an investigation into the
shooting. Initially, investigators had no suspects and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. The case marked the third homicide in the city in less than a week, adding to a somber statistic of violence in the community.
Less than a week after the fatal shooting, a breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of a suspect. Joseph Dunn, 30, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Antwon Willis. In addition to the murder charge, Dunn also faced two counts of wanton endangerment. Court records later revealed that Dunn had allegedly attempted to fire his weapon at two other individuals at the scene, but the gun did not discharge. Following his arrest, a not guilty plea was entered on Dunn's behalf, and his bond was set at $500,000. Subsequently, Joseph Dunn was indicted for the murder of Antwon Willis.
