On the night of Friday, February 27, 2026, a report of a man shot on the 300 block of East Cawson Street in Hopewell, Virginia, prompted a police response at approximately 11:15 p.m. Officers arrived to find a male victim who had sustained gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Tri-Cities Hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The victim was later identified as Andwuan Stewart, a
32-year-old resident of Hopewell. The Hopewell Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit launched a homicide investigation into his death. Authorities have stated that they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains active.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
