A simmering dispute between neighbors in rural Edinburg, Texas, violently erupted on the evening of Saturday, February 28, 2026, leaving 41-year-old Valente Trevino and three other individuals dead. The deadly confrontation, which unfolded in the 10500 block of Highway 107, is believed to have been preceded by a road rage incident earlier in the day, escalating a tense situation to a tragic and fatal conclusion.
That evening, at approximately 7:51 p.m., the Hidalgo County Sheriff's
Office received multiple calls reporting a neighbor dispute involving gunfire. Upon their arrival, deputies were confronted with a chaotic and grim scene, discovering several people suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the deputies and troopers from the Department of Public Safety, Valente Trevino was pronounced dead at the scene. Also killed in the exchange of gunfire were 36-year-old Eliazar Gabriel Martinez and 33-year-old Jacklyn Marie Ortiz.
Three other men who sustained gunshot wounds were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One of these men, 34-year-old Juan Luis Guzman, later succumbed to his injuries. The two surviving victims were identified as 35-year-old Marco Antonio Quintero and 25-year-old Datrell Dezman Fleming, who were both reported to be in critical condition following the shooting.
Investigators from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office's major crimes division and crime scene unit processed the area, executing multiple search warrants. Their efforts resulted in the collection of significant evidence, including firearms, shell casings, and ammunition. While the preliminary investigation points to the earlier road rage incident as a catalyst for the deadly shooting, the authorities have not publicly identified any specific suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the deaths.
