In the small, rural community of Edinburg, Texas, a dispute between neighbors on February 28, 2026, tragically escalated, leaving a trail of violence that claimed the life of 33-year-old Jacklyn Marie Ortiz Guzman and three others. The conflict, which may have been ignited by a road rage incident earlier in the day, culminated in a fatal shooting that evening.
Deputies from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office were initially called to the 10500 block of Highway 107 for a neighbor dispute, but the individuals at the scene were uncooperative, and the deputies left. Later that evening, at approximately 7:51 p.m., multiple 911 calls reported that shots had been fired at the same location. Upon their return, deputies discovered a chaotic scene with several people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Jacklyn Marie Ortiz Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene, along with Valente Trevino, 41, and Eliazar Gabriel Martinez, 36. Jacklyn's husband, 34-year-old Juan Luis Guzman, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Two other men, Marco Antonio Quintero, 35, and Datrell Dezman Fleming, 25, were also hospitalized with injuries sustained in the shooting.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the deaths. Jacklyn, a resident of Mission, Texas, was a mother to five children: Makayla, Maraya, Jesiah, Jayse, and Malanie. Her obituary describes her as a devoted mother and wife whose children and husband were her entire world. She was known for her selfless heart and generous spirit, and she cherished spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She is survived by her children, her parents, and her siblings.
