In a quiet corner of Eastman, Georgia, the life of 48-year-old Jonathan Lee Groves was tragically cut short on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. That evening, Dodge County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence on the Eastman Dublin Highway, where they made a grim discovery. Inside the home, they found Groves, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation, led by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation quickly pointed to a grim conclusion: a murder-suicide. Evidence indicated that 60-year-old Rex Willis Giddens, also from Eastman, had shot Groves. A search for Giddens ensued, and he was later found deceased in a wooded area near the home. His death was the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
