In what began as a welfare check at a Montoursville, Pennsylvania, apartment on the evening of February 10, 2026, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded, culminating in the death of 43-year-old Jonette Crossley. Concern arose when Crossley failed to show up for her job at a local restaurant. Montoursville police first visited her Jordan Avenue apartment around 8:20 p.m. and, receiving no answer, left. When they returned a short time later, they heard voices inside.
The situation quickly escalated when a gunshot was fired from within the residence, forcing the officers to take cover and call for backup. A lengthy standoff ensued, with law enforcement establishing a perimeter and attempting to negotiate. During the standoff, Crossley managed to call 911, telling dispatchers that a gun was being held to her head and that she would be killed if the police did not retreat. The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Johnnie A. Drummond of Norwood, Delaware County. Investigators later learned of a prior incident weeks earlier in which Drummond had allegedly put a gun to Crossley's head.
In the early morning hours of February 11, around 1:50 a.m., as a police Special Response Team attempted to force their way into the apartment, two more gunshots were heard. Upon entering, they found Crossley with multiple gunshot wounds. Drummond was taken into custody inside the apartment and no officers fired their weapons during the incident. Crossley was rushed to UPMC Williamsport in critical condition.
Four days later, on February 14, 2026, Jonette Crossley was declared brain dead in the intensive care unit. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, the first in Lycoming County for the year. Crossley was a mother to five children. In a selfless act, her organs were donated through the Gift of Life Donor Program. Johnnie Drummond was initially charged with attempted homicide and related offenses and was jailed without bail. Following Crossley's death, authorities stated that the charges against him would be upgraded to homicide.
