Jaydin Sanderson, a 19-year-old female from Johnstown, PA, tragically passed away on January 1, 2022. She was found in the driver's seat of her father's black sedan with a gunshot wound to her head. The circumstances surrounding her death indicated a struggle, as one of her shoes was found underneath the car on the driver's side.
The investigation into Jaydin's death led to the arrest of Qwante Rose, a 22-year-old male from Johnstown.
Rose was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. During the trial, witnesses testified that Rose confessed to killing Jaydin to multiple people, including a cellmate while in jail. Despite the defense's argument that there was no concrete evidence proving Rose pulled the trigger and that the gun might have been accidentally fired, the jury found him guilty of first-degree murder on February 14, 2024.
The trial revealed that Rose and Jaydin had attended a New Year's Eve party together, and Rose allegedly dropped her off on Devlin Street following the party. However, Rose's statements to the police contradicted each other, and he did not testify during the trial. The jury's verdict brought some closure to Jaydin's family, although nothing can bring back their beloved daughter and friend.
Qwante Rose was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on April 8, 2024. The District Attorney's office expressed gratitude to the law enforcement officers and the many people involved in the case for their tireless work in bringing justice for Jaydin. Despite the outcome, the family continues to mourn the loss of Jaydin and holds her memory close to their hearts.
