On July 8, 2023, 38-year-old Kandace L. Mervin was fatally shot in her residence on Wood Street in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The incident began earlier that morning when police responded to a reported verbal dispute between Mervin and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Michael Lyles Jr. Officers found no signs of physical abuse and instructed Lyles to leave the premises.
