In the early morning hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, the city of South Bend, Indiana, was rattled by a fatal shooting. Jiffery T. Jones, a 48-year-old man, was discovered with a gunshot wound and, despite efforts to save him, was pronounced dead at the scene. The South Bend Police Department was alerted to the incident and promptly began an investigation into the death, which has been ruled a homicide.
