In the late hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026, the life of 19-year-old Kemauri Ziquan Blount of Monroe, North Carolina, was tragically cut short by gun violence. The fatal incident unfolded around 11:10 p.m. at the Brooke Pointe Manor apartment complex on Fairington Drive NW in Concord. When Concord Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic and heartbreaking situation with four individuals having sustained gunshot wounds.
Kemauri Ziquan Blount, along with
22-year-old Michael Harrison Overstreet, also from Monroe, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims, both female, were found injured in the backseat of a Honda Civic and were quickly transported to a hospital for medical attention. The shooting sent shockwaves through the community, with neighbors reporting that this was not the first instance of gunfire at the apartment complex.
The investigation into the double homicide moved swiftly, leading to the identification of a suspect. Brandon Cortez Morris Jr., a 19-year-old, was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting. According to warrants, the incident also involved a robbery, with Morris allegedly stealing a gun from one of the victims before opening fire.
Morris now faces a litany of serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, one count of armed robbery, and two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied property. He is currently being held in the Cabarrus County Jail without bond as he awaits his journey through the legal system. For Kemauri Blount's family, this tragedy is compounded by a previous loss; his 12-year-old younger brother was killed by a stray bullet in Monroe less than two years prior, in December 2024. The Concord Police Department has stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
