A New Year's Eve party in Gonzales, Louisiana, took a tragic turn, ending the life of 19-year-old Jose Artunez. The young man was shot and killed following an argument that broke out during the festivities on Darla Avenue. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours, shattering the celebratory atmosphere and leaving a community in mourning.
According to witnesses, the dispute involved three individuals and escalated quickly.
In the midst of the confrontation, Adrian Liborio, 21, allegedly produced a firearm and shot Artunez. The violence did not end there, as Liborio then reportedly used a vehicle to run over a second victim as he fled the scene. The second individual was transported to a local hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Following the chaotic events, Liborio was apprehended by the Gonzales Police Department. He was subsequently booked into the Ascension Parish Jail to face serious charges. The accusations brought against him include second-degree homicide for the death of Jose Artunez and attempted second-degree homicide for the injuries sustained by the second victim.
