On August 1, 2024, a fatal shooting occurred in Gonzales, Louisiana, resulting in the death of Mark Johnson Jr., a 26-year-old resident of the area. The incident was reported early in the morning, with deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office responding to reports of a shooting at an apartment located along LA Highway 44 in Gonzales around 1 a.m..
