On the evening of New Year's Eve 2025, a tragic shooting in the Gate District of St. Louis led to the death of 29-year-old Darrius Euell. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Rutger Street and Ohio Avenue. When officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the 2600 block of Rutger, they discovered Euell on the sidewalk, unconscious and with critical injuries.
Emergency medical services promptly transported Euell to a nearby hospital.
He underwent multiple surgeries as medical staff fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Darrius Euell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:39 a.m. on January 1, 2026. His death has been classified as a homicide, marking one of the final homicides for the city in 2025.
The St. Louis Homicide Division is actively investigating the fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding a potential suspect or any arrests made in connection with the case.
