A tragic story unfolded on the southbound lanes of U.S. 71 Highway near Blue River Road on the morning of January 7, 2026. Keithlin Royster, a 32-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in what Kansas City police believe was a road rage incident. The event led to the closure of the highway for several hours as investigators processed the scene.
