In the early evening of January 11, 2026, the life of 28-year-old De’Ontez K. Denson, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Kansas City, Missouri. Responding to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue just before 6:30 p.m., police officers discovered Denson inside a unit suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at the residence.
Preliminary investigations by homicide detectives suggest that an argument preceded the fatal shooting. It is believed that a verbal altercation between Denson and another adult male escalated, resulting in gunfire that struck Denson. The male suspect fled the apartment before law enforcement arrived and has not yet been identified.
Authorities have classified Denson's death as a homicide and are actively investigating the incident. Detectives and crime scene personnel canvassed the area for evidence and sought statements from any potential witnesses who may have information about the argument or the suspect. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
