In the early morning hours of January 18, 2026, the life of 36-year-old Kiara Jenkins, a Black/African American female, was tragically cut short in Chicago, Illinois. A devoutly religious woman and mother of five, Jenkins was reportedly leaving her home in the 6400 block of South Drexel Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood when she was attacked.
Around 4:30 a.m., she was discovered unresponsive in an alley, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
Emergency services pronounced her dead at the scene. Her family, devastated by the loss, remembered her as a person deeply dedicated to her church and just days away from celebrating her 37th birthday.
In the immediate aftermath of the discovery, the Chicago Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Detectives from Area 1 were assigned to the case, canvassing the area for evidence and seeking information from the public.
