In the early morning hours of November 29, 2025, a violent domestic disturbance tragically escalated at a residence on Miles Avenue in Akron, Ohio. The incident involved 44-year-old female Rebecca Lee Guthrie, who was at home with her boyfriend and her two adult children when a verbal argument began between the couple. The dispute quickly turned physical when the boyfriend, identified as 38-year-old Gregory Tillman, allegedly grabbed a knife and attacked Guthrie, stabbing her multiple times.
As the situation spiraled out of control and she attempted to flee the violence, Tillman reportedly produced a firearm and shot her.
During the altercation, Guthrie's 25-year-old son attempted to intervene to save his mother but was also shot by Tillman. When Akron police officers arrived at the scene around 2:10 a.m., they were met by Guthrie's younger, 18-year-old son, who described the chaotic sequence of events. Officers found Guthrie unresponsive on the living room floor, suffering from both stab wounds and a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:31 a.m. Her older son was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and listed in stable condition.
Gregory Tillman fled the home immediately following the attack but was located and apprehended by responding officers further down the street. He was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently faced serious legal consequences. Authorities charged him with murder, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability. By late December, a Summit County grand jury had indicted Tillman on charges related to Guthrie's death and the shooting of her son, moving the case forward toward trial.
