On December 3, 2025, a 21-year-old Hispanic male named Jose Lopez-Rivas was fatally shot in Nashville, Tennessee. The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Woodbine Street, where Lopez-Rivas was reportedly waiting outside the Nashville Hookah Bar for a friend. According to witnesses, an unknown male approached him, leading to a brief argument before the assailant fired a single gunshot, striking Lopez-Rivas. He was subsequently transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Although initial reports and some records listed his age as 24, police later confirmed through his birth certificate that he was 21 at the time of his death.

Homicide Unit detectives from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. Community members played a crucial role in the case by assisting law enforcement in identifying the suspected shooter. A week after the murder, on December 10, 2025, detectives from the TITANS Unit arrested 23-year-old Rivaldo Sis-Tobar. He was taken into custody on an outstanding homicide warrant and booked into the Metro Jail for the fatal shooting.

The investigation also led to the arrest of the victim's own brother, 20-year-old Edgar Lopez, who was present at the scene when the shooting took place. Authorities charged him with evidence tampering and making false statements to police. Video evidence obtained by detectives allegedly showed Edgar Lopez helping the suspected shooter, Sis-Tobar, move his brother's body and rummaging through the victim's pockets following the attack. He was arrested on the Friday preceding Sis-Tobar's capture.
