In the early morning hours of Friday, December 5, 2025, a fatal shooting occurred at a residence in Leesville, Louisiana, claiming the life of 21-year-old male Kavin Simmons Jr. The incident took place overnight amidst a verbal altercation between Simmons and a family member. During the argument, a firearm located within the room was retrieved and discharged, striking Simmons once in the chest.
First responders and deputies from the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene to
attempt life-saving measures, but Simmons succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location. Friends and family later remembered the victim, known by the nickname "CrazyKav," as a former student of Burkeville High School who possessed a kind spirit and a willingness to help others.
Law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Sam Craft, reported that the investigation led to the immediate detention of a suspect at the scene. The individual taken into custody was identified as a 13-year-old juvenile and family member of the victim. Following the shooting, the teenager was transported to a juvenile detention facility in Alexandria and charged with second-degree murder. The case was subsequently referred to District Attorney Terry Lambright to determine further legal proceedings regarding the juvenile's prosecution.
