On August 23, 2025, Micah Schmidt, 22, a man from DeRidder, was found dead inside a home on Cedarbrook Circle in Leesville after deputies with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office conducted a welfare check around 5 p.m. Unable to reach the homeowner and hearing someone moaning inside, deputies forced entry and discovered Micah Schmidt, 22, deceased and a woman unresponsive on the floor.
