On the morning of December 8, 2025, a quiet residential morning in the gated Money Hill community near Abita Springs, Louisiana, was shattered by a grim discovery. St. Tammany Parish deputies were dispatched to a home around 7:00 a.m. after a neighbor, who was out walking his dog, spotted a motionless figure near the front entryway of a residence. Upon arrival, authorities located the body of 55-year-old Ni Huang, a female resident, lying near the front door.
She was found wearing a sweatshirt stained with blood, having sustained fatal injuries that were later confirmed to be from gunfire.
As law enforcement officers secured the scene and entered the home to conduct a further sweep, they discovered a second body inside. The deceased man was identified as 57-year-old David Ladner. Investigators pieced together the timeline of events, aided by witness accounts from the surrounding area. A neighbor reported hearing sounds resembling gunshots the previous night but had initially dismissed them, assuming someone in the vicinity was test-firing a weapon given the local culture of hunting and firearm ownership. It was not until the following morning that the tragic reality of the noise became apparent.
The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office subsequently conducted examinations of both individuals to determine the official cause and manner of death. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. Ni Huang's death was ruled a homicide caused by gunshot wounds, while David Ladner's death was determined to be a suicide, also resulting from a gunshot. Because the sole suspect, identified as Ladner, was found deceased at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the case, and authorities did not seek any other suspects.
