Quincy Jay Polk, a 30-year-old Black male, was killed in a shooting that stemmed from a road-rage confrontation in a Lowe's parking lot near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road in south Phoenix, Arizona. On the afternoon of November 22, 2025, around 2:45 p.m., Phoenix police say an argument between drivers escalated into a physical fight and then to gunfire. Polk was driving a white SUV carrying his fiancée and their three young children when the dispute with another driver turned violent.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and police later issued an update confirming his identity and stating that one of the child victims, 8-year-old Envy Cardenas, had also died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital.
According to investigators and court documents, the conflict began as some form of aggressive driving or tailgating between Polk's SUV and a gray Dodge, which continued into the Lowe's parking lot. Witnesses reported that both drivers got out and engaged in a physical altercation, and Polk's fiancée also became involved before everyone separated and returned to their vehicles, where the couple's three daughters were waiting in the SUV. At that point, police say the other driver went back to his car, retrieved a handgun, shouted a threat, and fired multiple rounds toward the driver's side of the SUV, striking Polk, his fiancée, and two of the children; a nearby third vehicle was also hit but its occupants were not injured. Polk's fiancée managed to get out of the SUV and return fire before collapsing from her wounds.
The shooting devastated the family inside the SUV. Polk died at the scene, while Envy was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition and later died from her injuries. His fiancée suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including to the face, neck, and shoulder, and relatives told reporters she remains hospitalized and faces extensive recovery, including reconstructive procedures. Another daughter, age five, was shot in the leg; family members have said doctors cannot safely remove the bullet, meaning she will live with it for the rest of her life. A third child in the back seat was not physically struck but was present during the attack. Polk's mother and grandmother to Envy, Joesra Martin, has spoken publicly about her loss, saying she feels a part of her is gone and that she is left preparing two funerals at once. Loved ones describe Polk as a devoted father who rarely went anywhere without his daughters, and online memorials now list him as having been lost to gun violence in Phoenix in late November 2025.
Police quickly focused on the other driver as the sole suspect in the case. He was identified as 28-year-old Tyrone Dee Chilly, who, according to officials, remained on scene, later called 911 to report that he had shot someone, and was transported to a hospital for unrelated medical issues before being released into police custody. After interviewing him about the incident, detectives booked Chilly into the Maricopa County Jail. Phoenix police and local news outlets report that he faces two counts of murder along with multiple counts of aggravated assault and endangerment; authorities have said they are not looking for any additional suspects. Jail records show that Chilly was booked on November 24, 2025, on two premeditated first-degree murder charges and several related counts, with his bond set at $3 million. The investigation remains active, but as of the latest updates, Chilly is the only person arrested in connection with the shooting that killed Quincy Polk and his daughter and injured other members of their family.
